The League of Women Voters Mt Pleasant Area is saddened by the loss of founding member Sarah Delia. Sarah served on the first Board of Directors and served as President for 16 years from 1977-79, 1999-2005, and 2009-2017.
Sarah chaired various study committees and was instrumental in obtaining a ground water study grant. She trained poll observers and coordinated their assignments. She organized voter registration drives and coordinated League fundraising drives. For many years, she served as the Candidate Forum moderator. Additionally, Sarah served on the LWVMI Board as Voter Service Director from 2005-2009.
In 2017, Sarah received the State League’s Maryann Mahaffey Community Service Award.
Even though Sarah stepped out of a leadership role in recent years, she continued to offer her time and talents to League and never failed to step up when help was needed. For example, she was instrumental in organizing the League’s 50th anniversary celebration.
On behalf of the membership, THANK YOU for your service and devotion to the League of Women Voters. Clearly you believe “Democracy is not a spectator sport.”
